5 Easy Pieces – Acting Made Real:
An intensive workshop led by Philip Knight
for actors of all levels who wish to develop their craft.
Over two days, the worlds of famous plays by, Harold Pinter, Tennessee Williams, Sam Shepard, Judith Thompson, Arthur Miller, Chekov, Ibsen and many others will open up in all their brilliance. Participants get the chance to explore and act scenes from these playwrights, and to act those scenes well.
We will focus on finding the scene through close examination of the story it tells, breaking the scene open by having fun with movement and speech, building the scene with experiments bound only by the limits of the imagination, doing the scene by utilizing classic rehearsal methods, and finally taking the scene one step beyond rehearsal into the living world we have created.
For 10 years Philip Knight has pursued a successful career in theatre, as a director and as an actor. He graduated from Canada’s premier institute for acting training, George Brown Theatre School, in 2002. In Canada, his company, Bloody Liberty Theatre garnered critical acclaim for its productions of classics by Tennessee Williams and Harold Pinter and in Shanghai he has worked nonstop, directing a string of hits by the likes of Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde and Noel Coward.
For this workshop he will be building on his own, unique directorial process as well as training methods he has been developing in both Canada and Shanghai.
